Nokia releases the 3D Printing Community Project

Posted By Sculpteo on Jan 19, 2013 | 8 comments

Nokia has just written a new page in the history of 3D Printing by releasing design files that will let everyone use 3D printers to make their own cases for its Lumia 820 phones.

3D templates, case specs, recommended materials and best practices are fully available for download. It’s the first time ever that a big company gives access to its product design for sharing and remixing with the community.

John Kneeland explains the potential of the project: “In doing this, Nokia has become the first major phone company to begin embracing the 3D printing community and its incredible potential, and continue to be the leading phone company in this exciting field.

The Sculpteo Team started to play with them and we can’t wait to see what you are going to propose. The case is pretty thin but easy to modify.

Nokia Lumia820 Case

The Nokia Lumia 850 can be 3D printed using a service like Sculpteo or your own home 3D printer. For these cases, we recommend our Polyamid material that comes in 10 vibrant colors: black, blue, red, green, yellow, white, orange, pink, gold and dark blue.

Polyamid is great for end products such as smartphone cases. Every month, thousands of you are creating your own Iphone cases using our award winning app 3DPCase. Our Polished Polyamid has proved its quality for strong and precise designs that you can use every day.

We are the only one proposing a Photo Background on 3D prints. Take any picture and get it on your 3D printed case.

We are very excited by this move from Nokia and can’t wait to participate to this community-based project.
