What is Solid Black Plastic ?

Solid Black Plastic is a fine black polyamide powder. It is produced thanks to the Selective Laser Sintering technology (SLS), based on a powder bed fusion process. Here, no need to dye or paint your part. Your part is directly taken out of the 3D printer in black. Solid Black Plastic is very strong and is approaching the resistance of injection plastic parts. What’s more, no need to worry about the color diminishing with the use or the years. In fact, as the powder is black, the color is within the part and won’t disappear.

What is Solid Black Plastic compared to Solid White/Grey Plastic?

Among our plastic materials offer, there are three colored powders : white, grey and black (starting from today!). Solid Black Plastic is composed of Polyamide 11 (PA 11), compared to White Plastic that is composed of PA 12, and Grey Plastic that is a combination of both PA11 and PA12.

The lower the number of PA is, the higher is its resistance.  However, accuracy is less important for PA11 compared to PA12. Accuracy is of +/- 0,5% (with a limit of +/- 0,5mm) for PA11, compared to PA12 that has an accuracy of +/- 0,3% (with a limit of +/- 0,3mm).

In compensation, brushing and sand blasting is more difficult for Solid Black Plastic. You may find some small pieces of powder when receiving your part. Moreover, you must be careful if your design needs holes to get rid of the powder stuck inside. Depending on the diameter and depth of your hole, it might not be possible to hollow it totally, you must be careful. This table places a “X” where the hole can be hollowed.

Your Solid Black Plastic parts will be smaller than Grey or White ones. Our Printer is P110, and the size of the part is limited to 180*220*300.
