Tuto : export from a Maya® format file to an .obj

As you certainly all know, when one intends to switch from one 3D modeling software to another, the ideal and most common file format is the obj, as it has been adopted by most of the 3D graphics applications.
All being well, obj is also one of the formats that are supported on our website.

The file formats that usually work on Maya® are for example .ma, .mb, etc., that is to say only the CAO software’s native formats. Consequently, when you wish to conciliate the use of the software Maya for your 3D modeling, and our 3D printing technology, you will most likely find this tutorial useful.

The first step is to activate the export plug-in to the obj format. The idea is that you must install the library objExport of Maya, and you procede as follows: windows — settings/preferences — plug-in manager.

Step 1 : Change the export’s defaults parametres

Step 2 : Add the plug-in

In this window, you can tick on objExport, and choose either autoload or load, if you want to apply the format just once. This plug-in allows you to export your files in the obj format.

From then, the obj format is available. Thanks to this process, you can save your 3D model in the obj format: File — Export all ou Export selection.

Step 4 : …everything…

Step 5 : …even textures!

Last, in order to make the management of your models easier, you must send us zip files, including your model, its textures in image format and each .mtl files that are associated to your work.

Step 6 : Turn your work into a Zip file

Step 7 : Upload your file on Sculpteo.com
