AutoFrost: a robot for cake decorations

Posted By sculpteo on Feb 28, 2011 | 0 comments

A group of students from Massachusetts have invented AutoFrost, a robot that can draw frosting patterns on cakes.

The principle is very simple: input the size and shape of your cake and draw your design using an interface reminiscent of Microsoft Paint. Once you’re done, simply hit a key and off you go.

If you want to draw in multiple colours, AutoFrost pauses to let you load another icing colour.

The user interface – created with the Python programming language – sends commands to two Arduino microcontrollers. One controls motor movements while the other controls the servomechanism that spreads the icing.
