Top asked questions about 3D Printing #2 “About Sculpteo”

Posted By Arthur Cassaignau on Dec 10, 2013 | 0 comments

This is the second post featuring the most asked questions to Sculpteo’s team. This week the questions are focused on Sculpteo’s activity itself.

How can I see your different materials?

Come participate to our different events. We always come with many different 3D printed objects. You’ll be able to see our 7 different materials (that means a total of 48 different finishes). We organizes Meetups in Paris every month, and we’re present to lots of international events around 3D printing. The next ones are the CES 2014 and the 3D Print Show in New York.

And if you’re not patient (this is something we can understand 😉 ) you can also get a sample kit from our site, it includes a 25$ store credit.

If I want a large print, how big can it be?

The maximum size of a print depends on the material. You won’t be able to print something very large in our wax material for example.

We’ll reach our maximum size with our white plastic material. It’s 67 x 56 x 38 cm.

For other materials:

–        Colored plastic: 18 x 22 x 22 cm

–     Polished plastic: 17 x 16 x 15cm

–        Alumide: 30,8 x 30,8 x 60 cm

–        Resin: 29 x 19 x 14,7 cm

–        White high detail resin : 29 x 19 x 14,7 cm

–        Colored high detail resin: 29 x 19 x 14,7 cm

–        Multicolor: 25 x 38 x 20 cm

–        Ceramic: 25 x 35 x 20 cm

I have a 3d printing project, is it possible to come meet you? And visit your factory?

Of course it’s possible to come and have a chat with us! We’re here to advise you! Be sure to give us a phone call before you come though! We have lots of customers wanting to swing by, so if we want to keep doing this, be sure to get in touch with us first.

As for the factory, we mostly keep it closed to the public. It’s located in the South of France for our European production.

How can I create my own store on Sculpteo.com?

It’s really easy! All you need to do is to go to Sculpteo.com and click on either Login or Upload a 3D file. You’ll be redirected to a page to register. You can register using your email address, your Facebook or your Twitter account.

Once you have your account, you’ll be able to upload designs, analyse designs, get instant quotes and order 3D prints.

From here, you’re almost done. You just need to click on your account in the top right corner.

Select “my account”, scroll down until you find the “Open your own designer shop”.

You’re good to go!

I want to print my model in ABS, can you do it for me?

We have 3D printers that print in ABS. We use them sometimes to quickly iterate around designs, but you can’t directly order an ABS print online. Shoot us a mail and we’ll see what we can do. Maybe we know a maker space close to your place and we can tell you where to go. For instance, if you’re in San Francisco we would recommend Honeybee3D. If you’re in Paris, you can go to Le comptoir des Makers. And if you’re in London, iMakr is a good choice.

What is the maximum size of a file that I can upload on your website?  What kind of format do you need?

If you’ve questions about the creation of your 3D file, you should take a look at this blog post. But to summarize, we take 3D files up to 50Mo and a file needs to have a maximum of 1 million triangles. As for the formats, STL is the standard for 3D printing, but we take up to 25 different file formats.

Are you still hiring?

Our team is constantly growing! If you want to make a career in 3D printing, you should definitely send us your resume.
