Description

Painting is available on PA12 (both MJF PA12 and SLS PA12), on resins, as well as on soft material like TPU (both SLS TPU and MJF TPU) and cannot be applied to interlocking parts. The painting process gives a color to the material in any of the available painting finishes described below, and in any specific RAL color.

The coating used on soft material is a TPU based coat that has an equivalent flexibility as the TPU material, resists friction, fatigue and multiple bends of the part.

Process

The colors are spray painted on the material, allowing a uniform and smooth surface while maintaining most of the detail of the printed object: On that particular topic, the level of detail depends on the type of finish that is chosen.

Delivery Time

The painting process typically adds 4-5 additional business days to the turnaround time on your parts. It could be more depending on the number of parts.

This means:

Standard colors : printing time + 4-5 working days
Custom colors : printing time + minimum 10 working days

Our printers’ physical dimensions typically limit the size of objects available for painting. If you require a painted object larger than these constraints allow, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can explore options for assembling parts together, as additional thickness can be incorporated during the painting process, which may impact the assembly of models.

Unlike dye, paint is very durable and retains the same shade without losing intensity. Since we use a bicomponent polyurethane acrylic paint, there is no risk once it dries of staining clothing or your skin. It is therefore suitable for all uses. However, when in contact with some solvents, paint may degrade. Similarly, if the painted piece is striped, rubbed or scratched, the paint may wear or clear, so it is advisable not to use this finish for mechanical parts but for prototypes and exhibits. Finally, complex parts may not be painted in the most inaccessible areas, although our operators make every effort to achieve a uniform result over the entire surface of the part.
