About the Company:

Chouette specializes in precision viticulture, offering advanced solutions for optimizing wine-growing operations. Since its founding in 2015, the company has established itself as a leader in the field, boasting one of the most extensive databases of viticultural imagery in Europe. By utilizing onboard sensors, Chouette captures high-resolution images that comprehensively understand vineyard health. Through a combination of artificial intelligence and agronomic expertise, this data is analyzed in real-time to pinpoint the causes of yield loss and deliver actionable insights that help winegrowers optimize their practices.

Chouette Camera Sensor

About the Project:

Chouette equips tractors and agricultural machinery with cameras embedded with proprietary sensors. These devices traverse vineyard rows, capturing dynamic, high-precision images that form the basis of robust vineyard monitoring.

The collected data is processed using artificial intelligence and agronomic models, which analyze the images to provide winegrowers with a powerful decision-making tool. This information helps winegrowers fine-tune input doses, locate and address missing or underperforming plants, monitor leaf growth, and identify diseases or potential yield losses, ensuring more precise and effective vineyard management.

One of the standout benefits of this technology is the precision it brings to vineyard monitoring. Early detection of diseases allows for targeted interventions, reducing the need for excessive use of phytosanitary products and supporting environmentally friendly practices. This approach significantly contributes to sustainable agriculture—a pressing goal in the face of modern environmental challenges.

Additionally, dynamic monitoring helps winegrowers maximize yields and produce higher-quality grapes. By identifying problem areas early, they can adapt cultivation practices, ensuring every bunch of grapes reaches its full potential.

Overcoming Challenges:

To bring its vision to life, Chouette partnered with Sculpteo to produce the protective shells for its cameras. These shells, crafted from flexible Ultrasint® TPU01 material using Multijet Fusion technology, offer both durability and aesthetic appeal. Designed to house delicate electronics, the shells protect against external environmental factors while proudly displaying Chouette’s logo.

The product development process, including prototyping and small-scale production, was completed in just a few weeks. This rapid turnaround enabled Chouette to bring its cameras to market quickly, ensuring readiness for the critical start of the winegrowing season.

Future Developments:

Chouette is planning to further enhance its technology by integrating additional sensors into the next generation of its products. These advancements aim to transform vineyard monitoring by enabling the capture of multiple viewing angles, with sensors positioned strategically to provide a more comprehensive view of the vineyard. This approach ensures that both foliage and grape clusters are accurately monitored, even under challenging visibility conditions. Additionally, these sensors would improve analysis accuracy, allowing advanced image-processing algorithms to utilize multi-perspective data for refined assessments, such as determining berry ripeness, identifying signs of rot, and detecting abnormal color variations with greater precision.

What They Say:
