Overview of the project
About the project
It is important to highlight Atlantic’s activities within the Controlled Mechanical Ventilation (CMV) sector and the approach they take to developing, maintaining, and continuously improving their solutions. Through a structured methodology that combines operational expertise, innovation, and a strong focus on reliability, Atlantic ensures that CMV capabilities evolve in line with changing requirements and industry expectations. Their approach encompasses not only the initial development and implementation of CMV systems, but also their ongoing maintenance, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement processes, ensuring long-term value and sustained operational effectiveness.
Concept Presentation:
To further enhance the performance of its thermal management system, the customer redesigned a set of key components and produced it in PA12 using MJF 3D printing. The optimized parts improve condensate water guidance, ensuring efficient drainage while strengthening the overall sealing of the assembly. This design enhancement increases the robustness and reliability of the system, demonstrating how additive manufacturing can accelerate functional product improvements.
As part of Atlantic’s continuous product improvement process, two additional connectors were redesigned and manufactured using 3D printing. By leveraging additive manufacturing, Atlantic was able to quickly validate and implement design enhancements without the delays and costs associated with conventional tooling. Produced in PA12, the parts combine durability, dimensional accuracy, and water resistance, ensuring they meet the functional requirements of the CMV while enabling a faster and more agile product development cycle.

Material focus
For this application, PA12 proved to be the ideal material, combining performance, versatility, and cost-efficiency. Its excellent mechanical properties provide the strength and durability required for functional end-use parts, while its inherent flexibility allows it to accommodate complex geometries without compromising reliability. PA12 is also naturally resistant to water, humidity, and many chemicals, making it well suited for components that operate in demanding environments. From a manufacturing perspective, its compatibility with additive manufacturing enables rapid production without tooling, reducing both lead times and costs for low-volume or customized parts. This combination of durability, environmental resistance, design freedom, and economical production made PA12 the optimal choice for delivering a practical and scalable solution for Atlantic’s CMV product improvement.
Beyond the Project
What began as a targeted product improvement has evolved into a scalable manufacturing solution. Thanks to additive manufacturing, the redesigned components have moved beyond the prototyping stage and are now produced in series to support Atlantic’s ongoing production. The ability to manufacture multiple parts in optimized build nests ensures consistent quality, efficient production, and reliable supply, demonstrating how 3D printing can serve not only as a development tool but also as a robust solution for end-use manufacturing.
