Overview of the project

About the project

The project focused on one of the flagship machine: Emsens’s versatile tying machine designed for fuets, dry sausages, and other stuffed products. Capable of producing up to 20 knots per minute, it can quickly switch between fine and thick twine and supports several tying configurations, including single knots, loops, and paired tying. Its flexible, ergonomic, and hygienic design helps producers improve efficiency while preserving the authentic appearance of traditionally tied products.

Concept Presentation:

The components shown alongside the product form a custom-designed mechanism dedicated to a specific and demanding application. Without revealing the full operating principle, the assembly is designed to move around the end of the sausage casing and perform the tying operation, ensuring a controlled and repeatable knotting process.

The mechanism combines precision 3d printed 316L stainless steel components with blue PA12 elements, carefully selected for their mechanical properties and suitability for food-contact applications. This tailored combination provides the required balance of strength, precision, durability and hygiene, while allowing the mechanism to meet the specific constraints of the process.

Material focus

This application combines stainless steel 316L, valued for its strength, corrosion resistance, and durability, with blue PA12 qualified according to EU 10/2011 under OM3 testing conditions. The distinctive blue color also supports visual detectability in food-processing environments. The availability of these specialized materials makes it possible to harness the design freedom and agility of 3D printing for demanding food-industry applications, where performance, hygiene, and regulatory requirements are essential.

Beyond the Project

Beyond the ATE04, this project illustrates how additive manufacturing can support Emsens’s broader culture of continuous innovation. By combining its in-house engineering expertise with access to specialized materials and flexible production technologies, the company can explore new solutions, refine existing machines, and develop custom systems tailored to specific food-processing challenges. This approach provides an additional pathway for turning demanding technical requirements into reliable, high-quality equipment that helps customers improve productivity and achieve their development goals.
